It is when you find one of these posts in your “draft” folder you go: Hey wait a minute.. I guess my general thought was that this image was blog worthy, but then again I have no idea what I was thinking about when I rambled down the incoherent “words” above. But hey, who knows what is going through my mind at 0800 IN THE MORNING!

After unboxing my new Macbook Pro it was finally time to turn it on. After being used to the old Mac, this new one booted up in no time, and instantly gave me a question if I had a Time Machine backup (fortunately I did). It took almost 2 hours to restore my backup, but hey, it was around 200 GB of data. The process is smooth as silk, and it restores EVERYTHING. It senses that the backup was a leopard backup, so it didnt touch the system itself. Instead it added all my users, all my data and all my apps. After the restore my mac was precisely as it was before my old mac crashed (minus leopard, plus snowleopard). I just popped in my iPhone and synced the hell out of it =)

Since I am returning the broken mac , I wanted to wipe the data first. So I booted the mac in target disk mode (via firewire 800-400 cable) and run a secure data erase, writing zeros on every sector on the disk.

I must say this machine is impressing. I was downloading some stuff, running remote desktop on a remote computer, wiping the old mac, syncing my iphone, installing stuff, all at the same time… And the fans didnt even start… Blazing fast! The built in battery is nice as well. A normal charge lasts an amazing 6-7 hours, and I find myself charging it every other day, and I watch videos and surf the hell out of it in the evenings.

Now dont come here telling me that Apple Support isnt good, cause this experience beats the hell out of any support I have encountered. Replacing an 2,5 year old broken Mac, out of warranty, with a new one (free-of-charge). Today TNT even came to my work to pick up the old one, which is being shipped back. I guess they will raise their eyebrows when they see my Battlestar Galactica art =)

So a week ago the day came, when my UPS tracking told me, your Mac has arrived! As usual I couldn’t wait untill the next day delivery, so I went out to their pick up warehouse, a looong way from the city, and picked it up.

UPS is treating my parcel nice, that is good to know! The shipment came from China, and took only just 3-4 days to reach Stockholm, insane thinking that Posten Norway would use the same time to deliver the parcel from Oslo to Namsos :P

Since I had to go out of town to pick it up, I had to stop to eat so that I could stay up enjoying this peace of art later when I got home. McDonalds it was! (as always when going out of town).

Unboxing this monster of a laptop was as delightful as always. Apple packages their products in a way that makes you feel special when opening it. Everything is nice and clean, no stupid stickers with intel logos, blabla 2.66GHZ PURE POWER, and a logo for every technology present.

Again each cable and adapter is nicely “sealed” as you were getting surgical equipment =)

The unibody Macbook Pro is a piece of art. The laptop feels durable and really tough! The edges are smooth, and the built in battery makes the back smooth as benders butt!

In a later post Ill talk more about the experience I have with it.. You can imagine the specs are a bit better:

from 2.2 Core2Duo to a brand new 2.66 new model
from DDR2 to DDR3
from NVIDIA 8600GT to integrated 9400 AND a dedicated 9600GT
the list goes on

I have had my new iPhone now for a couple of weeks, but for some reason it didnt reach my blog. I guess because it still feels like I never was without one, as it is pretty similar to the old one. Except the speedier GUI, better camera and GPS, it is basically the same thing. Don’t look over here, nothing to see here, hey look at that
