I got a new hard drive, its a WD 320gb drive, perfect for my MacBookPro, only one problem, voids warranty to put it in, costs 150$ to get Apple to do it.. Wait a minute! I’m a geek goddamnit, I do this sort of stuff for the fun of it. Ahright! I have no problems cracking open PCs and other laptops, but my own baby?! I had second thought.. Ok, lets go!
The MacBook Pro is different to other laptops. There are no easy slide in hard drive slots as on the MacBook, there are no hatches/doors that one screw off to reveal a harddrive, so to speak: this thing is built for aesthetics, and not for easy removal of drives and stuff.
I started by removing all the screws, you need Phillips T0 and Torx T6, and a plastic wedge of some sort. Easy peasy! I hit the first problem when removing the upper case, I.E the aluminum plate, keyboard and track pad. In addition to the 20 screws, it was clipped together by small plastic clips. Applying to much preasure would snap them, which would be disastrous, as the keyboard would have a gap between the top and bottom plate. I tried out carefully, but after a while I got impatient, and snapped the thing right off! The plastic clips held, no damage!
Next was the superglue! The cable/electric current plastic that connects the sleeping light and infrared sensor to the motherboard, was glued to the hard drive. I had to be extra careful removing it, as it is a millimeter thin, and i can’t believe this thing is very durable. After much work, it was off! Then I just had to swap the drive, and screw the parts back together. Success =)
TimeMachine is restoring my drive as we speak, so when I get home, the only difference will be, twice the space =)
As I pack my suitcase here, I can´t help feeling a bit sad. For the first time ever I will be long away from my beloved Mac. I will travel to Oslo tomorrow, and then back to Namsos on Tuesday. But as I am working in Oslo, and probably some in Namsos, I need to bring my work laptop. I don´t have room for my Mac..
It is going to be though! But I think I will manage…
Isn´t this a pretty sight =) RAM prices are getting ridiculous low here in Europe (than you weak dollar) so I went and ordered some new sticks for my Macbook Pro. I had 2gb before, so I got two 2gb sticks for just 1450 kr! Which is just plain insane, Apple wants 7760kr for the same two sticks
Yes, it is coming! I canceled my iPod touch and found a way to get myself an iPhone instead. Since the unlocking guys are hard at work, I trust them to work things out so that I can use my phone by the time I get it! I have been drooling over this phone since the MWSF keynote in January, so this is going to be fun!
OK, some people hate Apple and Mac so I had to get a t-shirt that says “I´m a mac”, just for kicks, I´m a geek, I know it Well, It is a spoof of the Mac ad (look at the youtube video above)!
I ordered from some t-shirt company in the states and got the fedex today! And look at the sticker they put in my package!!
I know it is just for fun, but even so, just as funny I had to stick it to my shelf..
The unboxing of the jesus-computer =) Now to await the jesus-phone (iPhone)

My new setup. The MacBook Pro is hooked up to the Apple Cinema Display and itself is sitting on an iCurve stand. A USB hub serves all my connectivity needs and storage is provided by myBook external drive If this isn`t PORN, what is? =)
now to customize it and install all the apps, transfer data, clean up my music collection, and finally, install Vista in BootCamp
It reads, “to us it is not just a package(Consignment/Parcel)” Well guess what, the same phrase applies to me! The holy grail MAY arrive tomorrow afternoon is everything goes as planned, and if they keep the schedule my last TNT parcel had. That too arrived in Outer Area 2 around 18:30, and was delivered the next day God, this is so exciting, I can`t wait to repeat the process for an iPhone later this year!
